Read the whole finance quote, not just the monthly payment
A practical checklist for comparing deposits, APR, fees, final payments and the total payable.
Keep the vehicle and your planned use at the centre of the decision. A quotation should let you understand what you pay now, what you pay each month and what remains at the end. If an item is unclear, ask for an explanation before signing.
Your comparison checklist
- Vehicle cash price: identify the exact car and any optional extras.
- Deposit: separate cash from part-exchange equity and any outstanding settlement.
- Amount of credit: check what is actually being borrowed.
- Term and instalments: note the number, amount and timing of payments.
- APR and interest: compare the rate on your personal quotation, not an assumption based on another customer.
- Final payment and fees: include any optional purchase payment when comparing the cost of ownership.
- Total amount payable: check what it includes and whether optional products are separate.
- Conditions: review mileage limits, return standards, early settlement and missed-payment consequences.
- Commission: ask how the broker is paid and whether it affects the terms.
Allow room for running costs
Set aside a realistic allowance for insurance, fuel or charging, tax, tyres, servicing and unexpected repairs. Consider how the commitment would fit if your income or household spending changed.
Bring the quote to a conversation
Tell our team which car you are considering and which figures you would like explained. Do not send bank statements, identity documents or full account details through a general website enquiry. We can explain the appropriate application route if you decide to proceed.
